Now I understand what director Lee Daniels meant when he said people are thirsty for the truth! Precious tells the truth and shows us how to breakthrough from the hell of our realities!
The film Precious had everything incest, self hate, hopelessness, rape, illiterate, poverty, HIV, obesity, light skin/dark skin issues, cruelty and insecurity.
There is a scene in the film where MoNique is quick to correct Mariah Carey and say firmly " I did not allow drugs in my house" What the hell! Evil is evil! There is no such thing as one sin out trumps another. I have heard that same crazy philosophy from my own family members.
It also shows us that people who have authority over us for example mother, father, grandparents can destroy us if they have unresolved issues.
This was a cycle of hatred.
I pray that everyone goes to experience this truth. This is a call to action! If we are broken we must seek healing and break the cycle of pain. If we know of someone we must help. Break the silence and be the person that God desired you to be. Remember we are all Precious in his sight!

I am so glad you raised this film to my awareness. (After your blog last week, I got online and looked for information.) It is on my "wish list" of movies to see.
ReplyDeleteEvery day I thank my God that I had parents who encouraged me. I am white, but I grew up obese, and without the absolute LOVE and support of my mom (and dad- who died when I was 9) and stepdad... I might never have had the courage to do anything.
Those cycles are so hard to break, but not impossible- especially with God's help. Thanks again.
Good Blog, B! I can't wait to see the movie, but from the reviews online & from friends who've seen it, I must say what you are saying makes more than a lot of sense to me! I can understand the socio-economics of the movie mainly because when you take a people (African Americans in this occasion) and deprive them of the basics necessary to thrive, situations arise. Though some my triumph and succeed, others of that same circumstance will fall. It is a very upsetting reality I see every day. And what do we do? We pass the knowledge to those around us, loved ones and those seeking to know. But what of those who remain ignorant, those who ignore themselves and in doing so perpetuate this vicious cycle??? These are questions I have sought answers to for years. This film, like a few others, is a splendid way of bringing forth questions and subjects not easily discussed! Thank you for your enlightenment. I look forward to seeing this movie and discussing it with you.
